History
In 1981, pupils at Perth Grammar school produced the first edition of Perth Talking News – then a news cassette tape for the Blind.
The service relaunched in 1999 when volunteers and operations moved to the Blind Society at St Leonards Bank in Perth. In 2003, the volunteers moved to their own designated recording room at VisionPK in New Row in Perth.
Over the years, as new technology become available, the Perth Talking News moved from cassette tapes to CDs and more recently to USB drives.
Each edition contains a fortnight’s worth of news from local Perth & Kinross papers.
In February, 2021, Perth Talking News mailed out its 500th edition.
